• Foundation (2015): Gita Ramanan and Shezaan Bhojani, who previously ran an architecture firm together since 2006, launched Design Cafe to fill the gap for affordable, high-quality, and organized home interior solutions.
• Business Model: The company operates on a D2C (Direct-to-Consumer) model, featuring in-house designers and a 35,000 sqft factory in Bengaluru.
• Growth and Expansion: Design Cafe expanded from Bengaluru to over 10 cities, including Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Chennai, with numerous experience centers.
• Funding: The startup has raised over $57 million in funding from investors like Fireside Ventures, Westbridge Capital, and Sixth Sense Ventures.
• Profitability & Future: The company turned EBITDA profitable in FY24 and aims to expand its presence significantly, with a goal to reach 20 cities.
